Abstract 3.7 – Bridging the gap between vision and reality in our Catholic schools

13 Mar

Luke Monahan, Ireland

The aim of this paper is to provide a concrete and practical range of approaches, strategies and resources that enable our aspirations for our schools turn into visible, daily realities. The best practice experience of schools in Ireland and across the globe that the presenter has worked with will be offered to participants in an engaging and creative manner. Luke will explore the key indicators of a Catholic school and place along side them the practical expression that realises each of these indicators in the day to day life of the school community. The purpose is to build competence and confidence in the transforming experience our Catholic schools can have.

Luke will offer for consideration a range of initiatives from Ireland in particular which have focused on the implementation of the vision and values of Catholic education from the perspective of Heads, teachers, parents and Boards. For example a reflective forum where heads and Board Chairs come together to reflect on their role as spiritual leader. Similar processes for teachers and pastoral teams will be discussed.
